Common questions
Who needs to use MTD for Income Tax?
From April 2026, landlords and self-employed people with income over £50,000 must submit quarterly updates to HMRC digitally using compatible software. The threshold drops to £30,000 in April 2027.
What is Section 24 and why does it matter?
Section 24 restricts how landlords can claim mortgage interest. Instead of deducting it from rental income, you get a 20% basic rate tax credit. Yield handles this automatically so you never miscalculate.
Do I need Xero to use Yield?
No. You can add income and expense transactions manually within Yield. Xero is an optional integration that saves time if you already use it for bookkeeping.
Is my HMRC data safe?
Yes. Yield uses HMRC's official OAuth system — your HMRC password is never shared with or stored by Yield. You authorise Yield directly through HMRC's own login page.
Can my accountant use Yield on my behalf?
Yes. Accountants can sign up for the Accountant plan and submit on behalf of multiple landlord clients using HMRC's agent authorisation system.
